HOW TO SET UP USENET
BY CHRIS HAUS Cust 250 Forum Assistant
Select item B from the F5 Messages menu.
Select ADD A GROUP, you will see a list of all of the current
available groups, the list is quite long. There are more than just the
ALT. groups, so be sure not miss any <G>. Find the name of the group
you wish to access, press ESC and type the exact entire name into the
space provided on the screen. A confirmation screen will appear
asking if this name is correct.
After you've answered YES, another screen will appear with a brief
name of the group. You can edit this one, if you like, to anything
you wish, just like you can the forums and sigs.
You will then be asked if you would like to make this group PERMANENT.
If you say YES, RAINBOW access this group on every pass, and the first
time, it will get only 50 messages. After that it will get ALL new messages
which you have not yet downloaded. You might be surprised to find your
self downloading hundreds of messages. MY SUGGESTION......say NO.
Once you have all of the groups you want entered, select them one by
one. The next screen give you instructions on how to get the HIGH and
LOW message range for the group. Change the 1- in the highlighted box
to 0. On your next pass, to delphi, select CUSTOM RUN and include 99
for USENET and RAINBOW will go to each group and get only the HIGH and
LOW message numbers.
You can select option B again from the F5 messages menu to select
whether to now get ALL of the messages posted to the group, a range of
messages, subjects only, or headers only. If you want ALL of the
messages do not change the number in the block. If you want a range,
backspace out the number that is there, and type in the range. For
headers or subjects add either an H or an S before the -, or select a
range for either (ie 100S-, 350S-500S, 550H-800H, etc). On your next
pass, RAINBOW will get what you've requested.
If you are like me, you will probably want the last 50-100 messages
posted.
If you've selected subjects or headers only, you will need to once
again select option B from the F5 menu, select the group, and a box
will appear asking if you would like the list sorted. This puts al of
the threads together so you can follow the conversation. Select the
subjects or headers you want to get the complete message for, and
RAINBOW will get the messages on the next pass.
Once you have actually received the messages, you will see the groups
listed with your forums and you can read the messages just like you do
forum messages.
